Limitless celebrates another Downtown Jebel Ali milestone.

Infrastructure work has begun at Downtown Jebel Ali, the USD 13 billion, 200 hectare mixed use community project being master developed by Limitless.

Limitless has appointed local contractor Bin Hafeez for the initial phases of the work, which includes delivery of the roads and transport network for access to the site as well as underground preparation for the installation of telecommunications, electricity, irrigation and district cooling systems. Bovis Lend Lease are the project managers.

Peter Bisley, Development Manager for infrastructure at Downtown Jebel Ali, said:  “This is another milestone for Downtown Jebel Ali, and is more visible evidence that the project is making fast progress.

“The infrastructure works will provide the backbone for developers who have chosen to build at Downtown Jebel Ali. By early 2009, the scene will be set for landscaping and top layer finishing in the form of parks, streetlamps, roads and curbs. The works will also pave the way for the upgrading in August of interchange 8 on Sheikh Zayed Road – the access point for Downtown Jebel Ali’s East Quarter.”

The initial infrastructure works cover the East Quarter and East Central sections of the development: work in the West Quarter and West Central zones will start later this year. The four quarters of Downtown Jebel Ali each have three individual districts: The Urban Centre, The Trellis and The Medina, creating a blend of business, residential, shopping, dining and entertainment facilities woven together into a single community.

Located between the Jebel Ali Free Zone, Dubai Waterfront and Techno Park, Downtown Jebel Ali will have 326 buildings, including 237 residential. Designed with the an emphasis on urban spaces, there is ample room between buildings, with parks, walkways and pedestrianised areas.

Downtown Jebel Ali will also boast a rich, convenient transport system, enabling people to live and work there without the need for a car.  An internal “people mover”, with stops every 300 metres, will use the latest technology to provide easy, environmentally-friendly travel within each of the four zones.

There will also be four Dubai Metro stations for effortless travel between each quarter and to and from other parts of Dubai. Road access will be via four new freeway interchanges.
