Dubai, 4 April 2011 … The Galleries at Downtown Jebel Ali is the venue for a 26-milecharity walk by Daisy Clarkson, presenter on Dubai-based Radio 2.
Daisy is using the 215,000 sq ft communal garden at The Galleries to walk a Marathon to raise money for DebRA, a UK charity working on behalf of people who suffer from the genetic skin disorder Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB). While Daisy covers 26 miles here in Dubai, her London-based sister-in-law will run the same distance in the London Marathon on 17 April, also in aid of the charity.
Bahaa Abouhatab, Project Director at The Galleries, said: “Limitless research shows that people in Dubai walk much less than the 10,000 steps a day recommended by the medical profession. Physical inactivity costs economies billions of dollars as it puts huge strain on health services and leads to lost working days through sick leave.
“We are delighted to welcome Daisy to The Galleries – our first walkable community – where green, shaded outdoor areas make up half of the master plan. Her Marathon walk will not only raise money for EB, but will also encourage other people to think about their walking habits.”
As well her regular strolls around The Galleries, where the Dubai Metro station is now open, Daisy is wearing a pedometer provided by Limitless to monitor the number of steps she takes each day as part of her normal walking routine. Follow her progress at www.facebook.com/daisyradio2
