Douglas Kelbaugh, FAIA, has joined Dubai-based global master developer Limitless as Executive Director of Design and Planning.
Douglas brings more than 35 years’ experience in architecture and urban design and is a pioneer in solar architecture and mixed use, mixed income, sustainable, transit-oriented development.
Former Dean of Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning at the University of Michigan, Professor Kelbaugh is also a recognized expert, speaker, educator, and author of numerous essays, editorials, and books on architecture and urban planning, including urbanism.
“I admire and embrace the Limitless vision to enhance people’s lives through distinctive and sustainable development,” he said. “My biggest aspiration is to produce environmentally resilient, affordable, liveable communities that celebrate good architecture and good urban design. This is more easily said than done: there are plenty of examples of stellar architecture and of excellent urbanism, but all too rarely do they happen together.”
Douglas’ arrival emphasizes Limitless’ aims to take cost-effective, creative and sustainable design to new levels. He will focus on communities that have balanced land use, energy efficient buildings, and are dense enough to be both pedestrian-friendly and served by public transit, reflecting the Limitless philosophy of moving people, not cars.
